laser cut veneer on wood/plexiglass

A piece of veneer has flexibility but its dexterity is limited. Cracking is inevitable around sharp angles and within certain directions according to the grain. Imprint is ongoing research which prepares for splitting by creating openings that relieve the material in its weakest points.

These openings reinterpret our relationship towards reliefs within wood. The object behind the impression is revealed. The substrate is not limited to wood and therefore transparent plexiglass is used in order to allow light pass through this new material, enunciating these openings.
